Samuel Scoufos, Valet (DOCUMENTARY & STREET 2025)

I first visited Disneyland when I was 4 years old. I got lost. Literally. In the sea of people I was separated from my parents. I’ve been told it was only 5 minutes, I’m sure it felt like hours to Mom and Dad. A kind security guard returned a scared, crying me safely to my folks. Phew. Despite this, I have wonderful memories from that first trip. Over the next 40 years we would return regularly, usually when visiting all of our family in Southern California. I went with my high school concert band where we played part of the score to the Rocketeer. Last year, we went back with all of the family. Watching our children experience it for the first time was amazing. I decided over the course of 3 days to document the park and its surrounds from a different perspective. I was drawn to how even at its busiest with thousands of visitors you could find pockets of quiet. Amongst the joy, chaos and the cacophony lay these frames of silence carefully curated with textures, colour and an aesthetic that only the original theme park could provide.
