Bec Lorrimer, V is for Violet (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT 2026)

From the series Girlhood Violet, 13 years old Bateman’s Bay, NSW I met Violet at a K-pop fan event in Sydney and was struck by her confidence at such a young age - in her personal style, music tastes and perspective on the world around her. For years I have been developing a series exploring adolescence, observing that awkward, beautiful, and sometimes painful threshold between girlhood and womanhood, so a collaboration with Violet began. At thirteen, Violet inhabits a space of uncertainty—caught between the familiarity of childhood and the emerging awareness of who she may become. Her evolving appearance - clothes, makeup, hair colour - becomes a quiet expression of this changing identity: a way of experimenting with how she sees herself and how she wishes to be seen. Through this image, I seek to observe this fleeting period of transition with tenderness and honesty, embracing its vulnerability, individuality, complexity, and quiet beauty.
