Rachael Windress, UNCHARTED PATHS (ART & CONCEPTUAL 2025)
I am a fine art photographer passionate about creating dynamic, non-figurative, in-camera illusions. My images have been captured using interesting objects, experimental and fibre optic lighting and gels, unique perspectives and exposures, and my own passion, in a controlled environment. My art practice is about my personal journey of discovery of what I can capture with my camera, a moment in time in my life. Capturing every day objects in a different light, from my own perspective. Bringing back traditional photography in a digital age, through non figurative abstract photography. Utilising the power of the camera while working in a controlled environment as well as being strongly focused on the use of objects which exists in our immediate, physical world. UNCHARTED PATHS epitomises my personal journey since the 2022 Lismore floods. My life changed forever and I was displaced. The world I knew no longer existed. Although I still had my belongings, I no longer had a home. A journey into the unknown, requiring resilience, adaptability and a willingness to embrace new experiences now existed. I collaborated with a glass artist in Tasmania in 2021 to produce a unique glass sphere from which I created this photo, this year in my studio in Hobart. Life can take you on some amazing journeys, if you allow yourself to embrace new experiences and put faith within yourself. Believe in yourself and follow your heart!
