David Rosendale, Ulysses’ Gaze. View to Lalgambuk (Mt Franklin). (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2024)

From the series: The trees observe, The land has memory. From a series created in Dja Dja Wurrung Country, the Wombat State Forest & Hepburn Regional Park Australia. It represents a pivotal moment of emerging from the claustrophobia of Covid restriction, reconnecting with an infinite landscape. Whilst romantic landscape tradition & the depiction of sublime beauty of the natural world has always informed my work, a discovery of long ancestral footprints in this region evokes enduring connection to "place," a concept that transcends mere physicality & delves into the spiritual & historical ties that draw us to the land & indeed a particular location.
