Jay Hynes, Twin (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT)

Rifle shooting wouldn’t be my first thought if you asked what brings me peace. But for Craig, it offers solitude. Brought up in the city, Craig’s heart belongs in the country. He shoots to protect crop, livestock and livelihoods. He shoots humanely. He only shoots pests. Craig is my twin. We’ve spent our lives side-by-side, but we’re different. The only shooting I do is with a camera. And yet, spending time together for this photo, I began to understand Craig’s perspective. Going shooting allows him to connect with the land, with himself, and with something far greater. Which, I guess, is not so different after all.
