Fiona Bowring, The Wedding Party (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT 2026)

When I first saw them, Phil and Lata were sitting in the park, unwrapping packages, and bit by bit transforming from their everyday into glistening outfits. ‘You look wonderful!’ I said. ‘I had them sent from Fiji’, Pushpa told me, all smiles. ‘Special occasion?’ ‘A wedding’ ‘Oh! Whose?’ ‘Ours’ ‘When?’ ‘Now. We’re just waiting for our witnesses.’ Steve and Barbara arrived soon after and they converged at the court house. With no photographer in sight, I offered to record the moment. They happily accepted, telling me a little about themselves and how they met. Joyful encounters like are the beating heart of my photographic practice.
