Claire Letitia Reynolds, THE SKY THAT DEVOURED THE SUN, 2009-2024 (ART & CONCEPTUAL 2024)

THE SKY THAT DEVOURED THE SUN, 2009-2024, of the series ‘Taken' is a visual metaphor for the moral implications of greed. It seeks to dismantle the backbone of rational thought through surrealism and anthropomorphism, amalgamating non-traditional and digital photographic techniques. Earthen colours are introduced by embedding paper dyed with hand-crafted eucalyptus dyes, connecting the work to First Nations peoples and Country. The original photographs taken in 2009 at Munga-Thirri/ Simpson Desert, of the Arrernte People, NT, has laid dormant until late 2023, when contemporary events rebirthed and re-contextualised the imagery. Time has become the conduit for ‘TAKEN’ a body of work that draws on resilience, and Spirit. Printed on Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Gloss.
