Robyn Jean, tea cup (ART & CONCEPTUAL 2025)

My nana was an Aboriginal domestic servant, she was a stolen child who like all the children at the mission was forbidden to speak her Yamatji language and practice her culture. I remember how growing up Nana would bring out her fine china (the exact one in this photograph) and pour a cup of tea for us each. There was a beautiful quiet ritual that grew from this that continues today for me and my children. I created a dream like feel to the story, the paper bark tree holds onto the cup, two swans sit in the cup watching the three tiny cups fall to the ground. (symbols of my three children and our return a more balanced life with two cultures.
