Benjamin Lee, Seoul: The Land of Radiating Concrete Jungle (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2026)
In Seoul, hyper-dense, standardised apartment blocks sprawl like a suffocating fortress, a sterile concrete mass that thoroughly extinguishes any trace of the natural landscape. Pinned beneath the glittering, 555-metre spire of a capitalist altar, the city is sliced open by the frenetic, arterial bleed of perpetual highway traffic. The image exposes a dazzling but deeply soulless metropolis—an engineered ecosystem that worships relentless, mechanised transit while entirely forsaking human stillness. It is a brilliant facade; a skyline that appears spectacularly modern from afar, yet ultimately stands as the grim, hollow reality of South Korea's hyper-accelerated growth.
