Karen Waller, Red (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2026)

The salt-encrusted remains of a European red fox lie at the edge of the lake, its body slowly claimed by salt, light and time. Foxes are viewed as an invasive pest in Australia. First introduced for recreational hunting, they have devastated native wildlife and become a symbol of ecological damage. This animal did not choose its place in the landscape. In death, it becomes powerless, slowly reclaimed by the landscape it was forced into.
