Vince Lovecchio, Presence (DOCUMENTARY & STREET 2026)

This photograph forms part of a long-form project exploring the different ways people experience Newcastle’s ocean baths and their enduring relationship with the sea. I’m interested in the everyday rituals that unfold in this seaside setting, portraying the baths as more than simply a place for swimming. For some, they offer physical renewal, spiritual and mental wellbeing; for others, play, solitude, and community. I’m drawn to the interplay between people, structure, water, shadow, and light, and the sense of connection to the sea, to place, and to something larger.
