Bill Lane, Please Enjoy This Authentic Celebration of Blatant Narcissistic Doom Strolling (ART & CONCEPTUAL 2026)

A dense field of discarded plastic objects calicify into landscape. Scattered across it, a cast of grinning emoji figures, rendered as small plastic toys with articulated limbs. They perform cheerfulness at odds with the wreckage around them. Center-left, a skeletal construction bristles with tiny skulls, half war machine, half relic. On the right, a garish red-and-orange figure — skull-faced, machine-jointed — stands as the composition's dark counterweight to the emojis' manic grin. The work treats these found and discarded fragments as active participants rather than backdrop, building a scene where cheap consumer detritus and cartoon affect collide to unsettle both. It's less illustration than accumulation: a constructed, rephotographed tangle where spectacle and junk turn out to be made of the same material.
