Will Hartl, On the banks of Tso Moriri (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2024)
Karzok is a remote village situated in the Changthang region of Ladakh, India. Nestled on the banks of Tso Moriri Lake, Karzok sits at an elevation of approximately 4,570 meters (15,000 feet), making it the highest settlement in India. This small, isolated village is inhabited primarily by the nomadic Changpa people and is renowned for its stunning, rugged landscapes and the ancient Karzok Monastery, which serves as a spiritual center for the local community. Despite its harsh, high-altitude environment, Karzok remains a unique and culturally rich destination in the Indian Himalayas.
