Ashley Mossman, Matriarch of Flamenco (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT 2025)

The Matriarch of Flamenco takes a seat next to her son in a hollowed out cave in the back streets of Granada. Clapping hard she sets the frenetic rhythm which her son dutifully replicates on guitar, in a passionate and stirring performance. Towards the end her son leaps to his feet, still playing, as he is caught up in the energy of the room. In the background her photo hangs, as a respectful reminder to the younger generation, of the importance of these Flamenco traditions and all she has taught them.
