Aldona Kmieć, Kartie (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT)

Katie, former asylum seeker from Ballarat and daughter of Neil Para, who walked 1,000km from Ballarat to Sydney to raise awareness for thousands of families living in limbo. Today, still thousands of refugees who arrived in Australia by boat have been denied visas. This includes children. Without a path to residency and citizenship, they are unable to access vital services such as the right to Employment, Centrelink, Medicare or Education support. Denied recognition, they have been ghosted by the government. Their resilience is remarkable.
