Dan Ratner, James (PEOPLE & PORTRAIT 2026)

James owns Radio Free Alice, a record store in Darlinghurst. I photographed him using only the light in the store, drawn to the way it bounced around the room and created a natural chiaroscuro across his face. The colour, shadow and closeness of the portrait reflects an old jazz record sleeve, which felt appropriate for someone surrounded by music.
