Virginia Williamson, Ghostly Snowgums (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2026)
Any visitor to Australia’s high country would be aware that Snowgums (Eucalyptus pauciflora) dominate the tree line. These majestic trees are only found in Australia, however, their existence is currently under threat, hence the title of this work, Ghostly Snowgums. Climate change has altered the ecology of a native borer beetle that is rapidly killing snowgums. Fire frequency and intensity has been exacerbated by climate change and has weakened the Snowgum’s ability to reshoot. Without these magnificent trees, the habitat will change and threatened fauna will become more vulnerable.
