Mark Kriedemann, Dense Forage (LANDSCAPE & ENVIRONMENT 2026)
In the dense subalpine scrub of Cradle Mountain, a Tasmanian wombat claws its way through the vegetation in search of the most nutritious grasses. Anticipating where it was likely to feed at dusk, I positioned myself to bring together the different layers of the Cradle Mountain (Lake St Clair UNESCO World Heritage site) landscape. This incorporated foreground scrub, rolling hills and mountain ranges beyond. Using an 800mm lens, I compressed those layers of the landscape around the wombat, creating a sense of intimacy between the animal and the vast environment it inhabits.
