Susan Church, Commitment in Motion (DOCUMENTARY & STREET 2026)
'Commitment in Motion' captures the split-second intensity of rodeo steer wrestling. As the 'Dogger' launches himself towards the steer, horse, rider and animal are completely committed to the moment. Dirt hangs in the air as the action unfolds at full speed, creating a sense of movement and tension within a single frame. I wanted to capture more than the physical act of steer wrestling. I wanted the image to convey the skill, trust, timing and sheer commitment required from both horse and rider. For me, documentary photography is about preserving these fleeting moments that tell a bigger story. This image captures the raw energy of rodeo and the connection between athlete, horse and sport exactly as it happened.
