Emily Raffaele, Breathe (ART & CONCEPTUAL 2026)

‘Breathe’ is a photographic image from the larger body of work, Breath (2025). Exploring the flow of life that ultimately carries us towards death, ‘Breathe’ marks the beginning of a transition from life to the final moments of existence, an experience shared by all humans. Breath itself is a defining element of what it means to be human. Both as an individual image and as part of a cohesive body of work, I aimed to explore this concept through abstraction, at times approaching it in a metaphysical sense. Time and space play an important role, drawing attention to the act of breathing, the experience of pure existence, and the gradual continuum towards stillness at life's end.
